Rules and Regulations SPEECH (all rounds) part 1
For Speech Competition, there are 5 rounds and these are Rules and Regulations for them :
A. Prepared Speech (Preliminary Round 1)
Speech Subject and Preparation
1. Subject for the prepared speech shall be selected by the contestant but still in connection with the topic appointed.
2. Contestant must prepare their own three-to- five minute speeches, which must be original, but may include references to research, quotations, statistics, and material from other sources, as long as it contains an original or unique approach, not a substantial copy of another product.
3. Demonstration objects and visual aids may be used, but should not be a major portion of the speech. No slide, videos, or overhead projected image can be used.
4. The speech should not be read, but adequate outline notes may be used.
5. The topic will be given to the contestant four day before the seminar, November, 21th 2012 via blog at www.efecunsoed.blogspot.com
6. For the preliminary round 1, each contestant must hand over three hardcopies of the speech to the judges and send the softcopy via email to efec.unsoed@gmail.com before re-registration process on November, 25th 2012 at 7 a.m.
Timing of the Speeches
1. The speech should be no less than 3 minutes or more than 5 minutes in length. Contestants who speak less than 3 minutes or more than 5 minutes shall get his/her points deducted (2 points per 10 seconds of the total score).
2. Timing will begin with the first word uttered by the contestant which would includes any other communication such as sound effects, a staged act, etc.
3. Timers shall provide warning signals to the contestants (flags), which shall be clearly visible to the speakers but not obvious to the audience.
· A green signal will be displayed at the third minute and remain dispaleyed for one minute.
· A yellow signal will be displayed at the fourth minute and remain displayed for one minute.
· A red signal will be displayed at the fifth minute and remain on until the conclusion of the speech.
· No signal shall be given for overtime period.
· Any visually impaired contestant is permitted to request and must be granted a form of warning signal of his or her own choosing. Acceptable warning signals would include, but not limited to a buzzer, a bell, a person announcing the times of three, four, and five minutes.
· In the event of technical failure of the signal, a speaker will be given 30 seconds extra overtime before point deduction.
Protests and Disqualifications
1. Protest concerning eligibility and originally will be limited to judges and contestants.
2. Before a contestant can be disqualified on the basis of originality, the contestant must be given an opportunity to respond to the judges. A majority of the judges must occur in when the decision to disqualify is made.
3. All decision of the judges are final.

Impromptu Speech
(Preliminary Round 2)
Speech Subject and Preparation
1.
Each
contestant shall draw a topic slip containing three topics. Topic area: Choices
that would include: One word, one philosophical phrase, one policy oriented
topic.
2.
Contestants
may choose one topic to be used in the speech.
3.
Contestants
shall have 30 seconds to prepare before speaking. This 30 seconds shall not be
counted as a part of the five minutes.
4.
Notes,
materials, or previously prepared speech outlines shall not be allowed as the
contestant speaks.

for the Tall Tales Speech shall be selected by the contestant.
2. Contestant must prepare their own three-to- five
minute speeches, which must be original, but may include references to
research, quotations, statistics, and material from other sources, as long as
it contains an original or unique approach, not a substantial copy of another
product.
3.
The
speech must be of highly exaggerated, improbable nature, and has a theme or
plot. Humor and properties may be used to support or illustrate the speech.
Timing of the Speeches
1.
The
speech should be no less than 3 minutes or more than 5 minutes in length.
Contestants who speak less than 3 minutes or more than 5 minutes shall get
his/her points deducted (2 points per 10 seconds of the total score).
2.
Timing
will begin with the first word uttered by the contestant which would includes
any other communication such as sound effects, a staged act, etc.

Imaginary Pictures Speech (Semi Final)

The
participants will get a picture from the media and they can open their
imagination to draw the theme from the piture and develop it. The picture is
not different for each participant and relates to the latest issure about
economy, environment and goverment. There will be no question and answer
session after the participant ends the speech. Participants may deliver their
speeches in 3 to 5 minutes.

Rules and Regulation NEWS CASTING (all rounds)
This
field is requirement to who holds interest in challenging themselves more for News
Anchor role. It will be a good chance to develop the ranges of your
presentation skills. Presented in the 2012 Economics Dean Trophy English
Competition, enjoy the excitement and extraordinary challenges.
I.
General Rules
1. Every participant should be registered before the competition starts (at least 15 minutes earlier).
2. Every participant or representative has to attend
the Technical Meeting on the day.
3. Dress accordingly for every round: formal
dressed includes shirt, pants, and shoes. Blazer and tie (men) are preferable.
4. Before the competition, contestants are briefed
on the rules by coordinator.
5. Each contestant will be called 3 times when
their turn comes before considered as walk out.
6. After performing, contestant may not join the
audience.
7.
All
participants should respect and appreciate every judgment from the judges.
II.
Competition
Format
E-DETECT 2012 News Casting competition consists of 5 rounds: the 1st
preliminary round, the 2nd preliminary round, quarter final round,
semi final round and final round.
1.
The 1st
Preliminary Round: News Reading
As opening
round, the participants have to present 2 different news in 5 minutes which
will be provided by the committee. Preparation time will be 5 minutes in
quarantine room.
2.
The 2nd
Preliminary Round: Showbiz
In this round,
the participants will bring showbiz news in 7 minutes. The theme choice will be
handed to you, e.g.: music, movie, sports, lifestyle, celebrity, etc. Be an
attractive news presenter together with your chosen partner!
3.
Quarter Final
Round: Live Report
Each participant
will have a live report in 5 minutes. The themes will be announced in technical
meeting.
4.
Semi Final
Round: News Reading (Team)
In this round,
get ready to back to basic and make sure you are able to deliver news with your
chosen partner. You both will have to present news within 8 minutes.
5.
Final Round:
News Reading + Interview
Each participant
has to present news and interview with a guest star prepared by the committee
based on a certain topic in 10 minutes. Preparation in quarantine room will be
15 minutes.

ECONOMICS DEAN TROPHY ENGLISH COMPETITION
(SHORT STORY WRITING)
Competition
description
Economics
Dean Trophy English Competition 2012 - Short Story Writing Competition is a faculty-level competition which
provides a chance for participants to improve their writing abilities and show
their true spirit of expressing their imagination.
Short Story Writing General Rules
1. Participants must be Economics students.
2. The theme is free up to the participant (e.g : love, friendship).
3. Entries must be written in English.
4. Entries must be 1200 words-2,000 words (fiction story or creative non-fiction), font Times New Roman 12, space 1.5.
5. Entries must be original (no plagiarism).
6. Entries must not contain any SARA and violence.
7. Short Story Writing must be submitted in hardcopy and softcopy). Hardcopy should be submitted directly at E-Detect Hall (to the committee) and softcopy should be submitted via email to efec.unsoed@gmail.com. Don’t forget to attach your name, student number, and majoring.
8. Winning stories will be posted and announced on EFEC blog and Rendezvous.
9. Deadline submission : November 28th 2012.
10. Failure to observe these rules will result in disqualification.
Judgement Criteria
1. Originality and creativity (what makes the story significant?)
2. Structure (organisation, plot and setting, presentation)
3. Expression (connection with the reader, dialogue, narration)
